Alma Director arrived in in February 2002, as a 2-year old colt, purchased from Debbie and Jim Galletly of Alma Vista Stud, Queensland, . Director was selected by us after the decision was reached to add new bloodlines to our existing breeding programme and to choose a young colt as a future replacement for our foundation stallion Farino.
The pedigree of Alma Director was ideally suited to complement our bloodlines, adding some new lines as well as confirming those lines that we have identified as being important for our breeding programme due to pre-potent ancestry.
Director’s sire, Alma Velador, was the highest scoring entire during the 2001 Australasian revision round, scoring an incredible 86 points. His dam, Directora XIV received very high movement scores (9 out of 10).
Alma Director is the only son of this mating in and and is proving to combine all the positive attributes of his sire and dam.
His first public appearances, as a 4-year old colt during the AHANZ and NSHA National Shows culminated in 2 Supreme Champion wins, Best Movement, Best Presented and Most Suitable for Dressage and Showjumping. At one of these shows, Barbara Currie from the Foundation of the Purebred Spanish Horse in the was the judge.
The following year he was awarded Supreme Purebred Champion at the combined APANZ/Royal Easter Show 2005.
During EQUIPRE 2006 Alma Director gained the ultimate achievements by winning National Champion Stallion and Champion Funcionality (Ridden).
These show successes confirmed the judgement of the Cria official in November 2003 during Director’s valoration for Basic Aptitude, attracting the comment of being “the near perfect PRE horse’ and the possibility for his presentation for the prestigious “Calificado” Level at some later stage.
Alma Director started his early training under saddle in May 2004 showing great balance, rhythm and cadence. He has been worked lightly since, with a longer break during the winter 2006 due to some minor health complaints. He is now working well, with improved suppleness, rhythm and great engagement of the hind legs.
His first son, Hanna Salinero out of Moonshine Lace, looks to fulfill all our expectations as a tall, athletic, strong horses of very good PRE type. He was sold to Jane & Bev Falconer of Berwick Farm in Cambridge in May 2006 as a future stud prospect.
As we had hoped, he improves type and breed characteristics in many of his sons and daughters, continuously stamping his offspring with his genetic contribution.
Director is also sought after as a sire animal by other PRE studs throughout the country. To date (2009) he has produced 4 fillies and 5 colts.
