Jaleador de JC III, from the stud farm of Jacobo Corsini, Tres Cotos in Toledo, arrived in NZ in July 2007 to the delight and high anticipation of his new owners Sabina Holle and Philip Barrett.
Jaleador started his trip from Spain in late May. Thanks to the dedication and professionalism of Crispin Bennett Horse Transport, the valued stallion arrived in NZ fit and healthy.
Jaleador has settled well at his new home in Rangiora, after our stud's shift to the South Island in April 2008.
What makes this stallion so special is not just the fact that he is the first ever PRE breeding stallion to be imported to NZ directly from Spain, but that he is one of currently less than 200 stallions that have passed the rigorous breeding selection test in Spain, elevating him to the status of "reproductor calificado" - qualified or licensed breeding stallion. At this stage, there are no other PREs with this status available for breeding in either New Zealand or Australia and only one stallion has been secured in the USA so far. Up until now, the Spanish studbook administration have only passed stallions for this licensed level in their own country, and only from later this year are allowing the licensing committees to travel to other countries. However, the process is costly, lengthy in preparation and only the top 10-25% of animals have a chance to pass, so Jaleador is a treasured possession for Hanna Stud and embodies the stud's ongoing commitment to the PRE breed and its genetic improvement in Australasia.
Due to his special status, he has permission by the Spanish studbook to be serving PRE mares (and other mares) by AI.
The qualified/licensed status is a major achievement in the Spanish breed selection programme, only surpassed by the elite status, which is usually reserved for animals with proven performance records in international level FEI competitions. It selects for those animals which are deemed of possess the high qualities in breed conformation, movement , structural soundness of bone and limbs and reproductive capacity, to be specifically selected as breeding animals to help improve the breed and to be crossed with other breeds for a superior performance animal.
Jaleador carries impressive PRE genetics, coming from a stud farm which was established in 1970 and has dedicated itself to breeding PRE horses since 1980 after selectively purchasing some of the top mare and stallion lines in the country. Today, they produce some excellent dressage horses as well as horses for the competitive driving discipline. In fact, the stud was host to the 2005 Spanish National Driving Championships.
Furthermore Jaleador shared some of his genetics with such illustrious PRE stallions as Ubio, who made international dressage headlines a little while ago, for being the first ever PRE stallion licensed for a Germany Warmblood studbook, and Illes, who is one the dressage mounts of Victor Alvarez.
