HURI SJA confirmed in foal to the qualified stallion Candelario III.

Huri SJA our black mare in Spain, has been confirmed in foal to the qualified stallion Candelario III.

Candelario III was bred by the Bohorquez stud and is owned by the Yeguada Militar. He is an imposing strong bay stallion carrying the bloodlines of Albero II, Agente and Hispano IV.

Huri SJA and her precious cargo are expected to arrive at Hanna Stud in mid December 2011.

Two more of our horses have found loving new homes

Hanna Saleroso, 5 year old gelding by Farino, out of Jovencita III has been purchased by Yeguada El Rocio in Nelson. Saleroso is enjoying a great life as a riding horse for Jose, working around his substancial farm and being part of his small herd of PRE breeding animals. Jose tells us that Saleroso is adjusting to his new life very well and enjoys his work.

Hanna Peregrino, 6 months old colt by Alma Director, out of Jovencita III was recently purchased by Juliet Cayzer of Palmerston North. Peregrino will stay with us until later this year, until he is old enough for his trip up North and after he has been gelded. We wish Juliet all the best with this lovely young horse and we are sure they will have lots of fun together in the future.

New Mare to arrive from Spain this year

We had to go all the way back to Spain to find a suitable black mare to add to our breeding herd.

Huri SJA from Yeguada San Juan de Alberche will arrive later this year. She is currently being bred to a qualified stallion (to be revealed soon) so we can import her in foal.

Huri is a 4 year old mare, currently 163cm tall and of mainly JLEscalera/Military lineage. We plan to breed her to our black stallion Hanna Imperial in the future. Already we have strong interest in her future foals, and we are very hopeful that the addition of this beautiful mare will be the beginning of a successful black PRE breeding programme for our stud.

Dressage Clinic with international trainer Nadine Francois at Hanna Stud

On the weekend prior to Easter Nadine Francois will be teaching a 3 day dressage clinic at Hanna Stud. Nadine, based in Portugal, trains horses and riders according to the principles of the late Nuno Oliveira and has been visiting NZ for over 10 years on a regular basis. The clinic is expected to be full with most people returning for each occasion to ensure a continuing learning experience with Nadine.

Hanna Poderoso destined for future in Australia

The first colt by Jaleador de JC III and out of the mare Alondra XXIX is destined for an exciting future in Australia.

Poderoso has been sold to a dressage and PRE breeding stud in NSW.
He will remain in NZ until Spring time before commencing his travel to Australia and to his new home.

Congratulations to M. Koch, we wish you all the best and much success with this truely fantastic young horse in the future.

Hanna Imperial arrives back in Christchurch
February 2011

Our young stallion, Hanna Imperial spent a few months in Auckland to be backed by our trusted trainer Kieron Lynch. We have used Kieron for many years and he has always produced the most wonderful results with the early education of our young horses.

Imperial is now based in West Melton with Mark Wilson, who will be his rider for the next few years. Mark will be concentrating on Imperial's dressage training with the ultimate aim to take him out in open competition.

We have plans to offer Imperial at stud in the coming season, after he has had some training.

Foals for the 2011 season

we are delighted to announce that we have 4 mares in foal to our qualified stallion Jaleador de JC III for the coming season. All of the mares are due in December 2011 and some of these foals will be offered for sale. If you are looking for a Jaleador baby, please contact us for your expression of interest.

  • Alondra XXIX due late December
  • Tara Esmeralda due late December
  • Hanna Enamorada due prior to Christmas
  • Hanna Briosa (by Cancionero CA) due early December

Jaleador has just finished a very successful breeding season in NZ with PRE and partbred foals due late this year, seven of which will be purebred foals.

Alma Director has also successfully covered a PRE mare for a November foal.

Director colt born late in the season

Our old mare Jovencita III, now approaching 20 years of age has delighted us with the birth of a healthy, strong colt foal. We named the foal Peregrino. He is black at the moment, but most likely going to turn grey. We expect him to mature at 15.3hh+. He already displayes a beautiful, friendly attitude and shows off with this very balanced canter turns on the haunches.

Due to the lateness in the season, Jovencita will not be put back into foal. We will monitor her general health and fitness throughout the winter before making any future breeding decisions. If she will not be bred again, she will have a job as caretaker of our foal and weanlings in her retirement.

Please go to the gallery of our 2010 foals for more photos.

Congratulations to Leslie Palmer of Sheffield

on the purchase of Hanna Mercurio - yearling gelding by Alma Director out of Jovencita III.
We wish you much fun and success together in the years to come.

Two beautiful PRE foals by Jaleador born in December

Both Alondra XXIX and Hanna Enamorada blessed us with the birth of their foals in early December.

Alondra gave birth to a healthy, strong and upstanding colt that we named Poderoso. He is the first PRE colt at present by our imported, qualified stallion Jaleador de JC III and looks to be growing into a very tall, strong and imposing horse. Already at less than 2 weeks of age, he is the strongest foal we have bred so far.

Enamorada, being a first time mum, gave birth to a delightful filly that we named Princesa. Being the only female offspring of our deceased Moonshine Lace that we own, the birth of a filly has given us great happiness and we will retain this filly for our stud. Continuing on the lines of her great mother, Enamorada and her filly are both showing the same gentle docility, good looks and great movement.

Please go to the gallery of our 2010 foals for more photos.

VALE - FARINO - December 2010

It is with great sadness that we had to say good-bye to our beloved foundation stallion Farino in December.

Farino had been enjoying a life in retirement, watching over our mares and foals, when due to a sudden health problem we had to make the hard decision to have him put to sleep.

He has his final resting place overlooking the mare paddocks and we are about to plant a tree over his grave to remember him.

Farino has left us many beautiful pure and partbred offspring and some stunning grandchildren. Only a few days prior, he was around to see the birth of his first granddaughter by Jaleador out of Enamorada. We treasure his bloodlines and the intelligence, willingness and people friendly nature that all of his children seem to exhibit.

New Mare arrives at Hanna Stud

thank you to Debbie Galletly of Alma Vista Stud in Queensland, who sent us yet another of her stunning mares!
Tara Esmeralda is by Almatelo (Militario x Manuka Mistica) out of Delamere (Dacio III x Gofa Twilight) and just 6 years of age. We managed to get her to NZ on the only IRT flight that goes to Christchurch a year and she arrived in early December, settling in very well and making friends with Briosa as her new paddock mate.
The decision to add Esmeralda to our young mare herd was based on her bloodlines, giving us yet another great combination of Dacio III bloodlines and those of Militario and Hortelano via Manuka Mistica. Esmeralda's sire, Almatelo is the full brother to Alma Velador who is the sire of our stallion Alma Director. Esmeralda is also closely related to Alondra XXIX on both her parents' side.
Esmeralda will be bred to Jaleador for a 2011 foal.

Hanna Horses Pass LG ANCCE 2010 Revision with flying colours - November 2010

Hanna Imperial (4) and Hanna Briosa (3) both passed the breeding valoration with great success. The LG ANCCE authorized veterinarian who travelled from Spain to inspect horses was very impressed with Imperial. This young colt measured in at 168 cm with a stunning 36cm knee circumference and attracted the comment of being a very good PRE of high quality. Briosa also passed easily, measuring 158cm at only 3 weeks shy of her 3rd birthday. Briosa is developping into a very strong, big mare with plenty of scope. She will be bred to Jaleador in the future.

Photos on right show Hanna Imperial (top) and Hanna Briosa (bottom) the day after revision.

Rebecca Power in Australia also informs us that her 3 year old filly, Hanna Bondadosa, full sister to Imperial has passed revision with success. We hope to have some photos of her soon.

Hanna Imperial is soon to start his trip to Auckland to begin early training with Kieron Lynch in preparation of his further dressage training with his future rider Mark Wilson of Christchurch. We are very excited about the future of this pair.

Jaleador will feature at the 2010 South Island Stallion Parade

Due to the recent earthquake, the Stallion Parade was postponed by one week and will now be held on Sunday 19. September.

We hope to see many of your there.

September Semen Fee  - Special Offer

As part of the Stallion Parade Promotion, the semen fee for Jaleador has been reduced to $1500+GST (non-PRE mares) for all services booked in and paid for by the end of September

Canterbury Earthquake, September 2010

We like to take this opportunity to thank all those people near and far who have contacted us after the earthquake on 4. September to enquire about our and our horses wellbeing. We have been very lucky, having been far enough away from the epicentre of the initial quake, and all the the more than 500 aftershocks, which we are still experiencing at times. The city of Christchurch and also Kaiapoi in the North have not fared so well and many rural areas have also been badly affected with houses destroyed or deemed too dangerous to return to and farms with large cracks, dangerous for livestock to graze around. Our area will be busy rebuilding for many months to come.

All the horses - and people - at Hanna Stud have come through well, without any major damage. The house has a few minor cracks which appear mainly cosmetic, so we have been very lucky. All our friends and neighbours are well, as are their businesses and lifestock.

Thank you again for all your support and kind thoughts

Trip to Spain & Germany - August 2010

In July and August we enjoyed some wonderful weeks in Germany and Spain, visiting relatives and friends.

Dressage Clinic with Maggie Broekman

In May 2010 we hosted 2 clinics with Californian based dressage instructor Maggie Broekman. Maggie originally from Germany, has been visiting NZ for the first time and has achieved amazing results with her pupils who all benefited greatly from her expertise. Maggie gave clinics throughout NZ with the clinic in North Canterbury being organised by Tina Field. We hope to have Maggie return in September.

Covered arena completed - April 2010

This was a project 15 years in the making! Finally, we have our long awaited covered arena. The building was made by ShedsNZ and is constructed from laminated timber. It looks so much better than traditional steel sheds and everybody who sees it is absolutely amazed. The horses feel very comfortable in it, possibly because it is open on 2 sides.

We already had 3 clinics here, one with Nadine Francois     and 2 more booked with Maggie Broekman.

Hanna Bondadosa doing well in Australia - April 2010

Rebecca tells us that 2 year old Hanna Bondadosa (Cancionero CA x Moonshine Lace) has been to her first show where she behaved impeccably and came away with a Reserve Champion sash.

Congratulations to Rebecca and Bonny!

Sabina is awarded the status of accredited PRE breed judge

In October 2009 Sabina attended the PRE Celebration in San Diego, USA. She had previously enrolled into the new course organised by the Foundation for the Purebred Spanish Horse and PRE Mundial, to accredit new PRE morphology and valoration judges. The course has an theoretical online component, a practical session (in this case held during the October 09 Celebration show) and an acknowledgement of prior study, such as seminars attended and other breed specific or equine qualifications. Sabina was given the opportunty to shadow judge during th 3 days of the show, during all morphology classes including the championships, as well as during the functionality (ridden) classes.

During the shadow judging, Sabina joined the three judges, Col F Javier Velazquez, Col Jose Maria Fernandez Olmedo and Lt Col Leon Sanchez Zorilla in the ring and had to score each horse using the oficial score sheets. All three judges checked Sabina's scoring at the end of each class, thus continuously testing her competency.

At the completion of all parts of the course, Sabina was presented with a certificate given by the Foundation for the Pure Spanis Horse, MELPI and The International College of P.R.E. Judges.

Hanna Indiano wins Supreme Champion - January 2010

Congratulations to Claire Slee and Hanna Indiano on their win at the North Island Allbreed Show!

Indiano is out of our mare Alondra XIX by Andrea Ritmeester's imported stallion, Cancionero CA. Alondra has produced champions before and she has done it again.

Indiano at only 3 years of age and standing an impressive 16.2hh, shows all the signs of maturing into a seriously talented riding horse. Good luck for your future together - Claire and Indiano.

Second Season of Fillies for Jaleador

Jaleador has blessed us and other breeders throughout New Zealand with a second season of PRE fillies.

With the quality of offspring produced by this pre-potent sire, the future of the mare population for our stud is looking very promising.

Hanna Mistica was foaled by Alondra XXIX in mid November 2009 and is pictured here at approximately 3 months old.

We hope that Jaleador's string of females will continue for a while.

Hanna Triunfadora leaves for her new home in Geraldine
October 2009

Our first purebred by Jaleador, out of Moonshine Lace, a black/grey filly that we called Triunfadora has started her new life with Steve & Chris Blanchard in Geraldine.

Triundadora, born in early December 08 was purchased by Steve & Chris shortly after, but had remained at our stud until we felt she was old enough to travel. Her new owners had been to visit out stud a year earlier and had taken a great liking to both Jaleador and Moonshine Lace. Consequently, they had put their name down for a future filly, wanting to source quality young breeding stock for their budding stud operation. Triunfador will join another PRE filly, the one year older Berwick Milagra, by Alma Director, bred by Berwick Farm in Cambridge, whom Chris and Steve purchased a few months earlier.

We are excited to see how both of these promising youngsters will mature.
