Farino was put to sleep in December 2010.

Farino carries mainly Bocado bloodlines via his dam Fenicia 1971 (imported from Spain) bred by Sn Pedro Salas Garau of Ses Rotes stud on the island of Mallorca, Spain, and Military and Bocado lines via his paternal grandsire Caprichoso III (imp Spain) and paternal granddam Directora III (imp Spain).

Farino is of proven high quality performance bloodlines in the inhand and ridden showring up to Advanced level. His temperament combines the fiery self-confidence and docility that has been the trademark of the true Pure Spanish horse for centuries.

Farino was presented during the first ever classification visit of the Spanish studbook revision team in 2001 and scored very highly, being of excellent breed type and conformation to be considered a suitable sire to represent this breed.

Farino has proven his qualities as a sire across a variety of mares (Spanish and other breeds such as TB, Warmblood, Anglo-Arab, Stationbred), consistently producing well-conformed, strong riding horses with ample scope and a willing, keen temperament for training and exceptional talent for dressage and showjumping.

His partbred offspring have taken out National Titles virtually every year they were shown and have also distinguished themselves in the open showring including the Horse of the Year Show:

  • Junior Partbred Title 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002
  • National Highpoint Award for Junior Partbred 1996, 1997, 1998
  • National Reserve Supreme Partbred Champion Overall 1999, 2002
  • During the 2002 National Show, Farino’s partbred offspring won 2 out of 3 junior partbred classes, with the youngest winner only 6 weeks old.
  • Supreme Partbred Champion NSHA National Show 2006
  • Senior Partbred Champion NSHA National Show 2005
  • Senior Partbred Champion NSHA National Show 2007
  • The partbred gelding “My Capistrano” bred and owned by Debbie Young of Hamilton is successfully competing in the showring, including the Horse of the Year Show.

His first purebred son was awarded:

  • Champion Titles at all major Spanish classes in 2001
  • Champion and Reserve Champion Titles in 2000
And with his new owner in the South Island at the Ellesmere A&P Show:
  • 2nd, Best Entire for Saddle Horse
  • 4th Turnout and in 2003 Champion Hack,
  • Most Suitable for Showjumping,
  • Best Stallion,
  • Reserve Champion Stallion suitable for breeding Hacks, Hunters and Sporthorses and
  • Runner-up Ridden Stallion in open competition at the Canterbury A& P Show and All Breeds in Hand Show.

During EQUIPRE 2006, NZ first ever show dedicated exclusively to the PRE horse and judged by a FESCCR accredited judge from , Farino’s offspring was awarded top honours:

  • Hanna Galantera, 3 year old filly won Junior Female Champion
  • Hanna Hechizada 2 year old filly won Junior Movement Champion and Reserve Junior Female Champion
Both of these fillies are now owned by Richard & Melanie James, Corban Iberians, Rangiora.
  • Hanna Jerezano, 9 year old stallion received a very good point score during a separate judging day in Christchurch and attracted very positive comments about his conformation, breed type and movement. He is owned by Marti Winn, Winnfarms Spanish Horse Stud, Christchurch .

At the 2007 NZ purebred evaluation tour with Wayne Hipsley, Hanna Jerezano was again amongst the 2 top scoring stallions.

Since early 2007 Farino has been retired at our stud. We are excited about his son Hanna Jerezano and the younger stallion Hanna Hilandero (out of Moonshine Lace) now owned by Barroco stud in Taranaki to continue his brilliant genetics now and in the future. We have retained one of his female offspring, Hanna Enamorada (out of Moonshine Lace), to enable us to continue with this line in the future.

Moonshine Lace has been our most treasured mare to date. Unfortunately her life was cut short and we lost her in February 2010. She has been the dam of some outstanding horses as well as having been an oustanding mare herself. Starting with her 2001 revision scores of over 80 points, which placed her into the top 10% of horses throughout Australiasia and then showing her qualities once again during EQUIPRE 2006 where she was awarded Champion PRE mare and Champion Adult Movement. A beautiful, kind, femine mare herself, she also could produce solid coloured offspring, including black and chestnut and consistently passed on her beautiful temperament, good bone and movement.

We lost this once-in-a-lifetime mare that has always been full of health and vitality,  much too early, but have been fortunate enough to retain 2 of her offspring: Hanna Enamorada, a young mare by Farino who has inherited her mothers looks and movement and Hanna Imperial, a stunning black young stallion by Cancionero CA.

Hanna Entendida

Sire Jocoso X IAP1
Dam Lucia Escaladora
DOB August 1999
deceased

Entendida was one of only 2 purebred fillies that we bred with the deceased Jocoso X. The other filly out of Jovencita III was sold to the USA.

Entendida was selected to be one of our promising future broodmares, but a freak accident during a storm event saw her break a hind leg and she had to be put down immediately.
