Successes

Achievements

At Hanna Stud we strive to have the best breeding animals possible. We believe that only with the best genetics in the parent animals can successful breeding of youngstock be achieved.

The success of any breeding programme can only be measured by producing offspring which is either as good as, or better than their parents. In addition, we are very particular in emphasising correct breed characteristics in morphology and temperament and good movement.

In order to gauge our breeding progress our horses have and continue to participate in regular breeding evaluation events run by the former (FESCCR) and current (LG ANCCE) administration of the Spanish Studbook and other assessement opportunities, such as shows with accredited breed judges or assessement tours.

The results so far have shown that we not only have selected good to high quality parent animals but also have achieved a further progression with their offspring, helping with the overall improvement of the PRE breed in NZ.

Revision 2001

Judges: Tnt Coronel Rafael Ribas & D Jose Artillo
FESCCR assessement for inclusion of breeding quality horses into the Spanish Studbook which included the use of scoresheets giving points to different body parts, assessing the correctness of the breed type as well as movement. The minimum score required for entry into the studbook is a total of 70 points. Any animal with a total score close to and above 80 is considered to be of very high quality and in the top 10% of the population.

Revision 2003

Judge: Tnt Coronel Rafael Ribas

Alma Director, aged 4 years, valorated for breeding and recommended for assessment into the qualified breeding status.
Sire: Alma Velador, total points 86 during 2001 revision, highest scoring stallion in NZ and Australia
Dam: Directora XIV, total points 77.75; Neck 8, Back/loins 8.75, Movement 9 (highest score of all participating animals)

(NB: the qualified breeding status is a higher level of recommendation in the studbook, selecting only those animals that exhibit very high quality breed characteristics and superior morphology and movement. In general an animal needed to achieve close to or over 80 points in its basic breeding assessment to have a chance to pass the qualified breeding assessment (TRC). The qualified assessment is conducted by a minimum of 3 accredited judges under the management of the studbook and also includes X-rays of joints and assessment of the horse's reproductive system. To date, no such assessement has been conducted in either NZ or Australia.)

PRE Breed Assessement Tour 2007

Assessor: Wayne Hipsley, USA

In total 38 horses were assessed during this tour. This was the second time that Wayne Hipsley had assessed PRE horses in NZ, the first time having been a few years back, at the time organised by AHANZ Inc. Wayne Hipsley is a carded PRE judge accredited by IALHA (USA) and uses his own type of scoresheet during the assessment process. These use the same system to allocated points, but slightly different ways to differenciate between body parts and other characteristics. Hence the total scores cannot be compared with those given by judges accrediated in Spain and only individual scores and his overall comments and ranking of our horses are listed below.

Hanna Salinero (1 year old colt)
Sire: Alma Director
Dam: Moonshine Lace
Comments: very good quality colt, score of 8 for movement.

Hanna Saleroso (1 year old colt)
Sire: Farino
Dam: Jovencita III
Comments: very well developed young colt with strong topline, very good quality animal. Score of 8 for body and movement.

Salinero and Saleroso were 2 out of 3 highly recommended young stallions of very good quality and strong movement. Wayne Hipsley wrote in his summary article later : there is a very good trend for the young stallions in this country.

Hanna Jerezano (adult stallion)
Sire: Farino
Dam: Jovencita III
Comments: score of 8 for head, body and legs, score of 8.5 for breed type, very good stallion with wonderful attitude and temperament.

Jerezano was 1 of only two adult stallions considered of very good to excellent quality with very high breed type scores, which should be used to continue the ongoing improvement of the breed.

Hanna Hilandero (4 year old colt)
Sire: Farino
Dam: Moonshine Lace
Comments: Score of 8 for body and breed type.

Hanna Enamorada (2 year old filly)
Sire: Farino
Dam: Moonshine Lace
Comments: very nice filly, should mature into a top quality mare with great attitude and temperament.

Enamorada was in the group of fillies 2 years and younger and one of only 2 fillies considered to be well above average in quality.
